Dear Students, Parents, and Community Members,
Good morning everyone and welcome back to another great week at Eanes Elementary!!! Although the rain is a challenge, we welcome it and have enjoyed it! You may find that your children return home with a little more energy due to not being able to play outdoors as much; the rain makes it all worthwhile.
I would like to begin this week by welcoming a new staff member who was hired last week. Lauren Murphy is now our permanent PPCD (early childhood) teacher. She has served as a permanent substitute in that capacity since early October and did a magnificent job. She will be a great addition to our faculty. I hope you get the opportunity to meet her in the near future.
The late part of last week and early part of this week has seen two community forums held to share information in regard to facility needs and research being done so that the School Board members and the Superintendent can make decisions on the date, amount, and projects for any future BOND Elections that may be held. THANK YOU TO OUR WONDERFUL GROUP OF PARENTS WHO HAVE TAKEN THE LEAD WITH THESE FORUMS!
If you were not able to be there, please check with your friends and neighbors who were in attendance. It is critical that you be informed and supportive to ensure that Eanes Elementary gets the necessary improvements in the next BOND Election. Please feel free to contact one of the committee members for more information; Scott Colman, Anne Del Core, John Havenstrite, Joan Hudson, Colleen Jones, Ryan Keathley, Jennifer Kuhn, Laurie Maccini, Juan Miro, Laura Montoya, Eran Montoya, John Torkelson, Kirk Tames, Davey Schmidt, Julia Webber, and Michael Webber.
In case your children haven’t told you, we have added a couple of new activities to our daily routine. We are now featuring 5 minutes of Yoga each morning during our school announcements. One of our parents, Julie Westerville, has graciously volunteered to lead the Yoga each morning. Some students enjoy it and some do not, but we are committed to continuing the “health consciousness” at Eanes Elementary.
In addition, we are now including 5 minutes of walking at the beginning of each recess period. These two activities were added to ensure that we are complying with the physical education weekly minutes that are required by the state of Texas. Many of the teachers participate with their students as they walk. You are welcome to come by any day and join us as we get fit!
Next week we will have a few visitors from Tokyo, Japan who will be observing some our classrooms to witness how our teachers incorporate and use technology in their teaching. They contacted me because they had heard about our reputation and wanted to see it in action. In addition, they will be watching the 5th grade students as they give the morning announcements on KMBC; they are so excited about our studio!
Finally, a friendly reminder that Monday, February 15 is a student school holiday; it is in observance of President’s Day. The teachers, staff, and I will once again participate in a staff development, learning day (boy are we getting smart).
Have a fantastic Friday and a wonderful weekend!!! YOU ROCK MUSTANGS!!!
Cindy Acosta,
Principal
