STEAM DAY 2018 ROCKED!

This year's STEAM Day at Eanes Elementary was a huge hit, and we couldn't have done it without the immense support and hard work of so many.  First of all, a very special thank you goes to our EE Instructional Partner, Mrs. Kelly VanMeter for her vision, innovation, and passion for embedding engineering design within classrooms year-round.  Further, her dedication to this campus-wide event and the weeks of planning that accompanies it is honorable and highly valued.  Thank you, Mrs. VanMeter!  Another big shout out goes to the parent coordinators, Mrs. Sloss and Mrs. Khouw!  We appreciate your hard work and time!  Lastly, we thank all of the teachers, volunteers, and organizations who participated in this event.  This support, coupled with the generous funding from the EE PTO, made STEAM Day an incredible success.  THANK YOU!  Please check out some of the photos captured from the big day below!

Science Fair Participants

We're sending a special thank you to all of our science fair participants this school year!  Your hard work and scientific thinking were evident in your projects, and your display boards were detailed and well-done!  We were happy to pass out participation certificates and ribbons at this Friday's assembly.  Check out the picture of our science fair participants below!  Way to go, Mustang Scientists!

Skyward Gradebook

As this quarter comes to an end, our Skyward Gradebook parent access has been turned off. so teachers may begin entering grades. This process, allows teachers one week prior to the end of the grading period to enter their grades and comments. Once we return from spring break, we will begin our 4th and final grading period. As a district, all report cards will be available online after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018.

Social-Awareness and caring for others is the EISD SEL focus for the third nine weeks. Empathy is being able to understand and value someone else's perspective. It's having compassion for others even when they are different.

There are many ways parents can support their children in learning how to be empathic and caring. Our children are watching our behaviors and paying attention to how we are treating others. One way is to teach our children acceptance and respect is to model empathetic, caring behavior. "Take an interest in helping others through community outreach [and] bring your kids when appropriate. Get involved in programs that promote diversity" and expose your children "to a wide range of people and cultures". Talk to your kids about your involvements and let them know tolerance and acceptance are important to you. "Open and honest communication is the best jumping off point for teaching kids about tolerance and empathy."

To learn other ways on how to teach your child tolerance and empathy, read "6 Great Ways to Foster Tolerance and Empathy in Your Children".

Another article that addresses the importance of modeling empathetic behavior is "Cultivating Empathy" by Harvard Graduate School of Education, Making Caring Common Project.
