We Can, & We Will Be Somebody Who Makes Everybody Feel Like Somebody at Eanes Elementary!

Mrs. Ryan's Mustang Memo

Dear Eanes Families,

Welcome back from Spring Break, Mustangs!  We hope you all enjoyed a restful, joyful, and family-centered week off of school.  It is wild to think that we are in the last nine weeks of the school year!  We have many exciting adventures ahead of us during these last few months like: Kindergarten Round-Up, Heritage Day, Evening at Eanes, field trips, non-stop learning, STAAR, Mustang Mania, early release days, no homework nights, teacher appreciation week, and SO MUCH MORE!  As you can see, our calendar at school is filled to the brim with activities!

Report cards were posted in Skyward yesterday afternoon.  Please feel free to contact us if you are having difficulty accessing your account or your child's report card for quarter three.

As a reminder, next Tuesday, March 27, 2018 is an Early Release Day for all of Eanes ISD.  Students will be dismissed fro EE at 12:45 pm.  Lunches will be served, and buses will run on this day.  Additionally, Friday, March 30, 2018 is a student holiday for Eanes ISD.  Enjoy a wonderful weekend, Mustangs.  We will see you on Monday!

With gratitude,
Lesley Ryan

One way to support your teen in growing into a successful adult is to teach responsible decision making.

Social-Awareness and caring for others is the EISD SEL focus for the third nine weeks. Empathy is being able to understand and value someone else's perspective and having compassion for others even when they are different from ourselves.

One way to support your child in growing into a successful adult is to teach responsible decision making. In order for a child to learn the skill of making responsible decisions, the child must have the opportunity to make a decision and experience the consequences of his/her own decision. Our children may make quick decisions that are “rash, egocentric and short-sighted” without fully exploring the impact of their decision. They may even make a poor choice that has painful consequences. As parents it is difficult to watch our children struggle with consequences; however, it is our role as caring parents to do so.

Parents can start to teach their children the skill of decision-making at a young age, although decision-making is a “complex process that takes years to master”. Read the article Raising Good Decision Makers by Dr. Jim Taylor to learn more about how to teach your child the skill of decision-making.

The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed by Jessica Lahey and How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success by Julie Lythcott-Haims are two books that address the importance of allowing children to experience the consequences of their actions.
