We Can, & We Will Be Somebody Who Makes Everybody Feel Like Somebody at Eanes Elementary!

Mrs. Ryan's Mustang Memo

Dear Eanes Elementary Families,

Spring is always a busy and exciting time of year at an elementary school. Students are eagerly anticipating our annual Mustang Mania on Friday,  May 4, 2018. Mr. Presley and Mrs. Michael have a fantastic day of outdoor fun planned for our students. A schedule is attached below for your reference.

We cannot wait to kick of our incredible Book Fair on Monday!  We can't wait to explore new titles and enjoy all of the adventures each one holds! See the flyer below for more information.

Thanks to those of you who have already completed the Online Student Verification. The district has initiated this registration process much earlier than in past years. By completing the process earlier, we are able to better plan for school staffing and establish more efficient bus routes. Please complete this verification as soon as possible. The student information verification process is required for all students in EISD.To begin the online process, please visit www.eanesisd.net/siv. Also, if you know you will not be returning to Eanes Elementary next year, please notify Charlotte Burke at cburke@eanesisd.net .

Looking ahead, Tuesday, April 24, 2018 is an Early Release Day. School will be dismissed at 12:45 PM.  Lunches will be served and buses will run.

As a reminder there is no school on Monday, April 30, 2018.

A huge shout out goes to our incredible kindergarten teachers, EE staff, and parent volunteers who made this year's Kindergarten Round-Up a huge success.  We loved meeting our new crew of kindergarten pals - they're going to be a wonderful addition to our Eanes Elementary family!

Enjoy a wonderful weekend!
Lesley Ryan

One way to support your child in growing into a successful adult is to teach responsible decision making. In order for a child to learn the skill of making responsible decisions, the child must have the opportunity to make a decision and experience the consequences of his/her own decision. Our children may make quick decisions that are “rash, egocentric and short-sighted” without fully exploring the impact of their decision. They may even make a poor choice that has painful consequences. As parents it is difficult to watch our children struggle with consequences; however, it is our role as caring parents to do so.

Parents can start to teach their children the skill of decision-making at a young age, although decision-making is a “complex process that takes years to master”. Read the article Raising Good Decision Makers by Dr. Jim Taylor to learn more about how to teach your child the skill of decision-making.

The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed by Jessica Lahey and How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success by Julie Lythcott-Haims are two books that address the importance of allowing children to experience the consequences of their actions.
