District Secures COVID-19 Vaccines For Staff

In partnership with multiple agencies, as of Jan. 20, Eanes ISD has secured COVID-19 vaccinations for 138 of its most vulnerable staff.

For more than a month, Eanes ISD has worked to identify possible partners to be able to secure vaccines for teachers and staff, ultimately partnering with Austin Public Health and Ascension Seton. Superintendent Dr. Tom Leonard has advocated the importance of vaccinating school district staff, especially those over 65 and/or with underlying medical conditions. Staff were identified through a district survey launched in December where eligible staff indicated their interest in receiving the vaccine, should the district secure a partner.

Since last Friday, both APH and Ascension Seton have provided eligible staff access to the vaccine, resulting in 138 Eanes ISD employees vaccinated.

“We believe giving teachers and staff priority access to vaccinations is critical to our goal of sustaining schools,” said Dr. Leonard. “We appreciate the effort APH and Seton have given to ensure our most vulnerable staff receive the vaccination; we are truly thankful for their partnership.”

As Eanes ISD receives information on vaccine distributions in the community, we will work to expand vaccine opportunities to include more of our staff. We will keep staff informed of any opportunities that may arise.
